Every beauty business owner knows that there is a lot on their shoulders when running their own business – not only when starting it, but especially when maintaining the business. And along the way, unfortunately, it is easy to fall into some bad habits that could slow you down in achieving your goals and on the way to success.
In today’s blog, we have singled out 4 “bad” business habits that you could work on. Fixing or avoiding these bad habits can increase the amount of work you can get done in a day and leave a lasting impression on your clients. Work smarter, not necessarily harder, to achieve more than you ever dreamed you could
STOP DEPENDING ONLY ON YOURSELF
Do you sometimes feel like a “one woman show”? It’s easy to think and convince yourself, “My job is my baby and I can’t believe that anyone will take care of it like I do.”
Fight the urge to do everything yourself. It is okay and appropriate, even reasonable, to delegate some of your responsibilities to other employees and partners.
Give yourself permission to accept help. Surprisingly, your partners or employees could do a really great job. They may have more time to devote to work than you do. By delegating some of your tasks to others, you will increase productivity and employee satisfaction, while reducing stress and demands on your time. And maybe they’re just waiting to get the green light from you, to take on more responsibility and help you grow.
FOREVER BUSY
We could conclude that excessive work is the new status symbol for this generation. Being constantly busy with work means you are efficient, responsible and surely leads to happiness and wealth, right? In fact, working too much for a long period of time is not good for the health of your business, your employees, or yourself. There is a fine line between a full schedule in a busy salon and filling time with small tasks. As Stephan Covey wrote in his bestselling book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “It’s possible to be busy—very busy—without being very effective.” So give yourself time for breaks, carefully create schedules so that they are not overcrowded, because that’s the only way you’ll really be effective at work. And don’t forget that pushing too hard at work can lead to burnout – and you definitely don’t want that.
IT’S TIME TO GO DIGITAL
If you rely on paper notes, book schedules, one-on-one texts, or Messenger to keep up with your meetings, your task management system may need an upgrade. Automated services and technology can handle everything from your bookings to your routine daily or weekly tasks and monthly accounting tasks. Automated technology can give you back the time you spend sifting through different types of media to locate a client appointment and reduce confusion and misunderstandings. Digitize yourself and speed up the organization of work – you won’t regret it!
REDUCE THE TIME SPENT ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE
Have you ever been with a professional service provider when they received a phone call or checked their Facebook messages or Instagram comments? How did that make you feel? More importantly, what wasn’t the service provider doing while on the phone? Using your cell phone to answer texts or phone calls takes your focus away from everything else. Your customers may get the wrong impression if you pause their service to check on something that could be fixed later. Exceptions are understandable – you may be expecting news about loved ones or an important meeting. However, for the most part, limit your phone use to certain times of the day and put it away when you are working with clients. If you don’t want to miss out on a booking opportunity, consider hiring a partner to handle your bookings and social media marketing for you so you can limit the time you spend on the phone or social media.
We hope that through this blog we may have raised your awareness of possible bad habits related to business. We all have them, not only in work, but it is important to be aware of them and start improving them. Every small step leads you towards a better, good quality, more successful job and most importantly – more satisfied employees, clients and you!
